Sally Jamieson

Sally Jamieson has been a dedicated flutist with the Haywood Community Band since 2008. She began playing in fifth grade in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, and continued through high school, performing in a 150-member band at major events including the 1964 New York World’s Fair, President Johnson’s inauguration, and Expo ’67 in Montreal.

She went on to play flute and piccolo at Gettysburg College while earning her teaching degree, then taught elementary and middle school in New Jersey while raising three daughters. Music remained a constant in her life — from playing in church to performing at her daughters’ weddings.

Sally is especially proud to see her love of music passed down to her grandchildren, several of whom now play flute, clarinet, or violin. “I have my mom to thank for that,” she says, remembering long drives to private lessons after school.

After retiring from teaching, Sally and her husband Ron moved to Haywood County in 2007. A year later, she joined the Haywood Community Band. “It’s such a joy to play with a group that gives back to our schools and community,” she says.
