Feel the heartbeat of Independence Day with two free concerts from the Haywood Community Band called “American Salute.”
The band will kick off the patriotic season on Sunday, June 29, with a performance on the shores of Lake Junaluska. Then it will wrap up Haywood County’s freedom weekend with a performance at Calvary Road Baptist Church in Maggie Valley on Sunday, July 6. Both shows begin at 4 p.m.
“The concerts, ‘American Salute,’ will be an entertaining and inspiring musical tribute to America, to honor our country and the people dedicated to preserving our freedom!” said music director and Air Force Captain Stephen Razo. “From Yankee Doodle to George Gershwin, expect a true flag-waver performance featuring our endless parade of firecracker musicians dazzling you all the way down to the tips of your star-spangled toes.”
Community bands playing patriotic tunes to celebrate the nation’s founding began the year after the Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia, July 4, 1776. Nearly 250 years later, Haywood Community Band is proud to carry on the tradition.
